Together they’ve totaled 11 million hours played and an understandable 28 million deaths. Putting it even more into perspective are some additional in-game stats from the collective one million owners, whether they were playing alone or with their friends. A recent press release from publisher Deep Silver and developer Dambuster Studios has revealed over one million copies of the game were sold over its first weekend. Either way, Dead Island 2 has been a sequel nearly a decade in the making and quite a few people have jumped on to fight the undead in Hell-A. Perhaps it’s the influx of wonderful zombie-like games we’ve had recently or maybe the series still has more recognition than people expected. It wouldn’t be incorrect to say that for many the beloved hype had been filtered down into a hesitant uncertainty that any finished product would go the way of Duke Nukem Forever. The series has seen a memorable first game, an expansion, and many spin-offs, but the 2014-announced sequel continued to be quietly passed around through multiple development teams. Dead Island 2 is a sequel that many liked to jokingly say would never exist.
